This byway was developed parallel to the Miami and Erie Canal which operated between 1840 and 1860. Consequently, much of the history and recreation associated with this route is related to the Canal and its history. This meandering historic road features sweeping vistas, the sites of pioneer town New Boston, the Daniel Hertzler House and the Estel Wenrick Wetlands Park. Begins near the Ohio Masonic Home at US Route 40 in Springfield.

 

 

Lake Erie Coastal Highway

The more than 290 mile route closely follows the Lake Erie coastline from Conneaut on the east side to downtown Toledo on the west side. The byway mostly follows SR 2 and US 6 but also includes other local and state routes. The Lake Erie Coastal Trail is the second longest byway in Ohio.

The National Forest Covered Bridge Scenic Byway follows State Route 26 from Marietta to Woodsfield, Ohio. For most of its length, it parallels the Little Muskingum River. The scenic byway traverses some of Ohio’s most beautiful countryside. Many choose to stop along its route, to camp and savor the natural beauty of this area.
