The Humane Society of Delaware County: Relieving Animal Suffering Throughout Columbus, OH

18153Today we’re excited to share more about the Humane Society of Delaware County (HSDC), one of four local non-profits featured in Muth & Company Roofing’s holiday “Give Where You Live” fundraiser. The Humane Society of Delaware County is dedicated to eradicating animal suffering in Delaware County and surrounding areas by offering low-cost spays and neuters, educational programs, cruelty investigation and animal sheltering facilities.

HSDC began in 1972 as a humble shelter run out of a member’s garage. In 1984, a formal shelter was constructed at 4920 State Route 37 East in Delaware, and just a few years later, the Low-Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic opened. Currently, the group has the goal of expanding its facilities to better house animals in a safe and comfortable environment. In the short term, HSDC needs donations of “puzzle toys for dogs, Kuranda cat trees, and canned dog and cat food,” says Heidi Myers, Director. “Money donations would go to bring more light into our cat sickroom.”

Because HSCD receives no government funding, for the past 40 years it has relied entirely on the support of individuals and private businesses.  Its largest annual fundraiser, the Fur Ball, will be held on February 9th, 2014. The event raises funds to support a wide variety of programs and operating expenses, and donations are currently being collected for silent and live auction items. Other upcoming fundraising events for HSDC include the Heinz 57 Classics Dog Show on December 8th, and the first-ever Tacky Holiday Sweater Contest on December 21st.
