Last month, Muth & Company together with our partner station, 104.9 the River, announced that we were celebrating our 20th anniversary in a major way: by giving away a new Muth roof to someone in desperate need.
The selection process for the free roof wasn’t an easy one.
Our friends at 104.9 the River received 135 entries over the course of the weeklong promotion. They narrowed all the entries down to 10. From there, a Muth crew did site visits and inspections to make sure the entries were eligible and further narrowed the field to three entries. A committee selected the final winner, and on October 1st, Mary & Josh announced the winner on their morning show: Debbie Carpenter of Columbus!
Debbie is a single mom of four kids. She works as a special needs preschool assistant for the Worthington School District. Many setbacks have prevented Debbie from using her income to replace her failing roof. So her friend Laura came to her rescue by nominating her for the giveaway. Hear more of Debbie’s story here.
Work is now well underway for the free roof giveaway.
This new roof giveaway will give Debbie and her four children a complete and certified GAF roofing system. This roof will last for decades. We’ve removed the old roof and gutters (and they were REALLY old!), replaced rotted wood decking, and installed a new vented vinyl soffit under the overhang. Next, we installed a new fascia wrap over the fascia board.
To continue the project, we installed new 5″ gutters and downspouts on the entire house. Baffles went in the attic eaves to prevent the new insulation from blocking the intake vents. The bathroom fan was connected to an insulated duct that vents to an external flapper vent. Finally, we added several inches of blown-in attic insulation to give Debbie beyond the recommended R-30 value for Franklin County.
The cherry on top of the project will be a beautiful GAF Weather Stopper® System Plus roof!
This will include a Weather Watch® ice guard two feet inside warm walls and Shingle-Mate® underlayment on the remainder of the deck. We will be using GAF Timberline® Lifetime Shingles and hip and ridge cap. Then top it off with a continuous Cobra® Snow Country™ ridge vent. The final price tag for the project is just shy of $10,000.
We would like to say a special thank you to those businesses who donated materials and services for this very special project. GAF provided all GAF roofing products. Our friends at Allied Building Supplies donated all roof flashings, insulation, baffles, and delivery of the GAF products. Lansing Building contributed all gutter supplies, fascia wrap, soffit materials, and delivery costs. And Dan’s Hauling gave us a free dumpster for all the trash.
We at Muth & Company have truly been blessed over the past 20 years, and are thrilled to be able to give back to our Columbus neighbors in this small way. We look forward to many more decades of service to Columbus and Central Ohio!
