During National Volunteer Week, it was our privilege to participate in an amazing project, the 2013 Home of Hope Columbus Blitz Build. Over the course of five short days, from April 25 through April 29, many corporate sponsors and dozens of volunteers came together to build a new home for a deserving local family. The property, located on 18th street in Columbus, is just minutes from Nationwide Children’s Hospital and OSU.
As night fell on the first day of the build, our hard-working Muth crew had already finished installing a top-quality GAF roof on both the house and the detached garage. The roof features Timberline HD Lifetime Shingles in Mission Brown. We also used Weather Watch, Shinglemate, and Cobra Snow Country II as well as GAF Starters, and Timbertex hip and ridge cap shingles. Long story short: this roof will last for decades!
The Dedication Ceremony for the completed home was held on the evening of April 29, and broadcast live on WBNS-10TV with Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman presiding. Keys to the home were turned over to new owner Christine Travis. Christine is a 30-year-old Registration Representative at the Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University, and has legal custody of her two nieces, Destiny and Alicia. All three of them had been living in substandard housing for almost two years.
We applaud Habitat for Humanity MidOhio, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and WBNS-10TV for their outstanding organization of this effort, and look forward to more involvement in future Habitat builds!
