Muth & Company Roofing was proud to be featured in the latest edition of Roofing magazine. An article written by Hilary Daninhirsch in the March/April edition highlighted our involvement with the Hiring Our Heroes program, and featured interviews with Grant Smith, field supervisor, and Chad Muth, president of Muth & Company.
Hiring Our Heroes is a national initiative based in Washington, D.C., and led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. The group assists veterans, active service members and their spouses with finding meaningful employment opportunities and transitioning to the workforce. This goal is accomplished through partnerships with the business community, hundreds of job fairs held across the country, and free online career tools.
Grant Smith is one of more than 25,000 individuals who have obtained a job through a Hiring Our Heroes job fair since 2011. When he returned from active duty as a U.S. Infantryman in the Marine Corps, Grant wasn’t sure if he had any marketable skills that would help him to land a good job. He met Chad Muth at a Columbus trade fair in the spring of 2013 and was hired as an installer for Muth & Company Roofing.
“For me it was a real painless process,” Grant says. “I ended up finding a great job for a great company.”
Chad Muth has always been a huge supporter of the military and was immediately interested when he learned about the Hiring Our Heroes program. He knows that veterans like Grant have already learned self-reliance and discipline during their service, and those are skills that are invaluable for any job.
“[Veterans] don’t need someone to tell them what to do,” says Muth. “You can give them a task, and they’ll do it. If they have questions, they won’t just stop and sit there. Everyone is trying to complete a project in a timely manner. You need that in the construction industry, and they understand that. It’s a natural fit, in my opinion.”
Grant feels his leadership abilities have made up for what he initially lacked in roofing knowledge. He has already been promoted to field supervisor, and has found Chad to be very supportive of his continued service in the reserves. When he was called up for a month after being hired at Muth & Company, Grant was able to return and pick up where he left off.
Chad believes there are many real career opportunities to be had in the Columbus roofing industry, and looks forward to hiring more veterans who want a stable, long-term career and who are willing to work hard.
